Martin P. Learn
After leaving a career as an anesthesiologist in 1982, Martin became very actively involved in the solar industry, having presented and participated in many renewable energy conferences and symposiums as well as earning recognition for innovative illumination designs. Dr. Learn has also been a board member for the California Solar Industries Association (CALSEIA), who promotes the growth and expansion of the solar industry throughout California. Martin created Home Energy Systems, Inc. in 2001 with the mindset of sharing his knowledge and passion for solar with homeowners and businesses here in San Diego County. Living 100% off-grid in Julian, Martin knows firsthand the many benefits of renewable energy sources, especially solar and energy storage.
Ross Williams currently serves as Operations Manager of Home Energy Systems. Ross joined Home Energy in 2009. Ross graduated from The University of Pittsburgh with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in 2005. He has experience with virtually every aspect of Home Energy Systems Inc.’s operations from product and technology development to financing, maintaining, and building the relationships with the leading manufacturers of solar technology. Ross’ talents are vital in everyday business operations and development. When not working for Home Energy Systems Inc., Ross enjoys spending time with friends, family, his wife, Anna, and daughter, Bella. He loves to travel, bike, snowboard, golf, and go camping.
Chief Technology Officer and Engineer
Mr. Collins currently serves as Chief Technology Officer and Engineer for Home Energy Systems Inc. He joined our company in 2004. He is a crucial member of our team, Mike brings over 15 years of solar experience to Home Energy Systems, Inc. Known by many of our clients as “The Genius Guy”, Mike has designed and engineered over 300 residential projects and well over a million Watts of commercial solar. He has created/designed multiple engineering standards and processes for optimizing solar power productivity, all which are consistent with local and national building codes. Even as young boy, electronics and electrical has always interested Mike and it has become his life’s passion. He also enjoys brewing his own beer in his free time.
Commercial Solar Design Consultant
Paul Derho serves our clients as a Commercial Solar Design Consultant. Joining Home Energy Systems in 2009, he brings with him 3 decades of experience in the construction industry. Paul is SunPower Corporation certified in commercial design, as well as advanced residential design and sales. Making sure you have the right system for your home and/or business and the best investment for your money is Paul’s main objective. Paul has worked on projects as small as 3 kilowatts to commercial systems as large as over 400 kilowatts! He goes the extra mile to ensure that customers are 100% satisfied with their investment, earning him referrals to friends and family members.
Senior Design Consultant
Cassidy Furbush is our Senior Design Consultant and an integral part of the Home Energy Systems Inc. team. His skills, experience, and vast knowledge of photovoltaic (PV) systems allows for his ability to carry your solar project through all aspects of the sales, design, and implementation process with ease. Cassidy is advanced certified through SunPower Corporation for both sales and design. Additionally, he brings us over 10 years of solar electricity expertise and professionalism. During those 10 years, he has worked on hundreds of solar projects throughout California. Cassidy has spent the latter part of his career dedicated to alternative energy and making a difference in the world by helping to improve our environment, as he says: “One solar system at a time….”
Commercial Project Manager
Wenjie Chen currently serves as the Commercial Project Manager at Home Energy Systems. Wenjie joined the company in 2017. He comes from 7+ years of solar industry experience in commercial, residential, and utility scale PV design, project management, and system optimization with 25+ MW designed and deployed. Wenjie graduated from the University of California Berkeley with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and minor in Education in 2007. Wenjie and his wife Ashley have 3 children, Amelia, Arthur, and Clara and love trying out new places to eat, going hiking, playing outdoors, and spending time with friends and family.
Director of Business Development
Spencer Holt is the newest member of our team and serves as Director of Business Development. Spencer is a Cal Berkeley graduate and is excited to bring his extensive background in Sales and Marketing to HES. He is passionate about the effect of the solar industry in lowering energy costs while at the same time reducing the carbon footprint.
Director of Marketing
Allison Kelley has been apart of the Home Energy System's team since 2016. With a Bachelor's degree in marketing and a passion for green living, Allison has enjoyed working in the solar and energy storage industry. She brings innovative and exciting ideas to HES Solar and is currently spear heading their rebrand. Based in Los Angeles, Allison enjoys hiking and hitting the beach with her two year old pup, Duke!
Residential Project Manager
Once a world traveler, Rachael has settled into her role as Residential Solar and Energy Storage Project Manager. She first joined the Home Energy Systems team in a temporary position, but quickly moved her way into a permanent role. Her primary role is to ensure that all projects are completed in a quality, efficient, and aesthetically pleasing way. Once described as the “Swiss Army Knife” of the company, Rachael is well versed in many of the incentive programs available through the State of California and the Federal Government, saving our clients the most money possible. She has truly immersed herself into the world of solar and energy storage. Rachael's former profession as a SCUBA instructor has lead her to be concise, detail oriented, and patient. She still enjoys diving whenever possible/when the water is warm enough!
Shannon Ricaud is the Administrative Assistant who works with HES management and staff to support daily activities in running the front office. Making a good cup of coffee is her number one asset. Shannon grew up in San Diego and studied both computer networking and fine art. Her travels took her to Philadelphia where she received her degree in Printmaking and Painting from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. She believes that there is a strong connection between the arts and technology. Leonardo da Vinci designed a system to heat water using solar power for renaissance Florence. Leonardo would consider she is in good company at HES.
